Use this with the Hajj guide for UK pilgrims and how to book Hajj. Umrah travellers can steal the document and walking sections; skip Mina-specific notes. We are not going to list 200 branded gadgets. If an item does not prevent a missed rite, a medical problem, or a lost passport, it is optional.
Documents (photocopy and cloud)

Keep one pack on your person and one in a bag you would still have if a suitcase goes missing. Phone-only archives fail when roaming, theft, or a dead battery hits on the same afternoon.
Walking and climate
Hajj is not a city-break step count. Broken-in sandals, a blister kit you know how to use, modest layers, a hat or umbrella as you prefer, and a bottle you will actually refill. Heat and dehydration are the practical risks GOV.UK keeps repeating in Saudi travel advice.
If you cannot walk typical Haram distances at home, say so before you buy a shifting package. A cheaper hotel plus a surprise 1.2 km walk is not a bargain.
Ihram and clothing
What you wear in ihram, what fragrance you avoid, and how women dress for Hajj are scholarly issues. Take advice from a teacher. We will only say: pack a spare, keep it accessible in cabin baggage if you enter ihram in the air, and do not buy untested sandals the week you fly.
Medical
Prescriptions in original packaging, a letter for liquids or devices if needed, and any vaccinations required in the season you travel — check official lists, not a group chat. Hajj insurance that excludes “pilgrimage” is a false economy. Budget this beside the package on the cost guide.
Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah — pack light
You usually do not take a full suitcase to the ritual sites. Ask your operator what they move and what you carry. A small day bag: documents, medicines, water, simple food if advised, power bank, and a way to identify your group. Leave sentimental jewellery in the UK.

Can I take a suitcase to Mina?

What about an Umrah packing list?
Same documents-and-walking logic, without Mina days. Hotel distance still decides how much you suffer in cheap shoes.
