People search “how to perform Umrah” before they buy tickets, which is the right order. Learn the outline so ihram at the miqat does not surprise you at 35,000 feet, and so you do not book a hotel you cannot walk from between Tawaf and Fajr. Then use the Umrah guide for packages and hotel distance for the walk.
We will not write a 40-step madhhab mash-up. Where Hanafi, Shafi’i, Maliki and Hanbali practice differ — women’s ihram, what is forbidden in ihram, how much hair to cut — ask a teacher who knows your practice. A travel website that “settles” those points is performing, not helping.
Before you leave the UK
Take a local class if you can. Read one trusted booklet from your masjid, not five conflicting reels. Pack ihram as your teacher advises. Pack walking sandals you have already worn. Documents and medicines sit on the checklist even though that list is Hajj-titled — the document logic is the same.
If you fly from Heathrow or Manchester, ask your airline how they announce the miqat. Then still follow your teacher’s view on when to enter ihram, especially on routes that cross the miqat while you are asleep.
The sequence, at logistics level
- 1Miqat and ihram. Enter ihram at or before the miqat for your routing. UK flights often involve entering ihram on the aircraft. Follow the briefing and your scholarly advice. Niyyah is not a PA announcement — it is yours.
- 2Arrival. Jeddah usually means a road transfer to Makkah. Rest if you can before Tawaf if your group is exhausted; some teachers prefer proceeding sooner. That is fiqh plus fitness — decide before you land, not in the bus aisle.
- 3Tawaf. Seven circuits of the Kaaba. Crowds, heat and wheelchair routes are the logistics. Conditions of validity are for your scholar. Do not let a package “guide” rush you into a crowd you cannot handle.
- 4Sa’i. Seven legs between Safa and Marwah. Buggies and wheelchairs exist; ask your group leader where they start. Hydration matters more than filming.
- 5Tahallul. Leaving ihram, typically involving hair. Men’s and women’s practice differs. Confirm barbers vs cutting a small amount before you travel, especially if you will not use a hotel salon.
What a UK package “guide” usually is

Madinah
Visiting al-Masjid an-Nabawi is central for many UK groups. It is not a substitute for the Makkah rites. Build nights on purpose. A 36-hour Madinah stop after a draining Makkah week is how people remember only the coach.
